Sense there are lcd monitors wouldn't this make sense or no ? I know DLP is mainly for projectors but why can't they make pc monitors as well with DLP to solve some of LCD monitor problems or would that not help ?

well dlp is usually for larger screens. so no one would really be putting a 40in which is the smallest ive seen on a desk. and plus its not flat there is a fan and light bulb and color reel in the back so it will take up pretty much your entire desk area.

Thats why they make large wall mounts.:D

Not a bad idea really but you would really need to sit back a ways from it. A 40" screen is a lot to look at. I don't even want to think about the native resolution fo somthing that size.

well im sure if they really wanted to they could make smaller dlp's. they are just usually cheaper for the size. imagine a 26in monitor for around $200. I dont really know anything about the tech though but somehow I dont think it would be possible.

I doubt it would be cheaper. The light engine, bulb, etc. all cost the same no matter what size DLP: this is an advantage in that you can get really big (60"+) screens just with bigger cabinets (making those sets really profitable for the manufacturers), but there's no advantage to downscaling.

I guess you could make a smaller assembly with a smaller bulb and all, but I very, very much doubt you'd get it much cheaper than current LCDs. Plus you'd have to worry about bulb life, etc.

One issue with the DLP's is the actual DLP chip is one of the larger parts of the manufacturing cost. Since the same 1080p chip from Texas Instruments is used in a 50in and a 70+in DLP it is actually more beneficial to them to try and sell larger ones, than to cut the margins and make a 30in 1080p model. However once Mitsubishi et. all gets their Laser DLP's out the door, smaller ones might be a more likely reality, since you wont need to encase the big lamp ballast, or the large LED's used in the newer ones.

Doesn't really make sense...
DLP projectors need the DLP chip, lamp (look for 2000/3000 hours or so lifetime on a projector.. on a monitor I'm sure it doesn't need to be anywhere near as bright!) and if only using one DLP chip, you'd also need a color wheel, or the better alternative... 3 DLP chips..

Look up the technology at Texas Instruments website.. you'll see for yourself why this hasn't happened.. (plus the cost of producing even hi-def DLP chips is horribly expensive)
