Could the GTX 460 be the card I am looking for?

I've been hearing more rumors about this card recently... and it has 240 SPs and is slightly slower than the GTX 465. This card might be the replacement I am looking for for my 8800GT.

However, the reports have quite vague about its TDP. Some cite 130W as its TDP, others cite 180W. But, if it's shorter than my 8800GT (which is 9 1/2 inches and is quite a tight fit in my m-ATX case) and features a dual-slot cooler, it might run even cooler than my 8800GT does currently.

Could this be the card I am looking for? I am not looking to upgrade immediately, given that the rumored price point is $220, but if so, I will certainly buy one of these next year as a stopgap upgrade until I build a new PC in 2013.

It could be, it could also not be. The sensible (and only thing) would be to wait until it's benchmarked and released to see.

It will be interesting to see if the release of the 460 results in some movement in 5830 prices.

You are right. My 8800GT isn't dead yet (and it has been two years). Just cleaned the dust out of thing today. Now it runs 5C-10C cooler than it did yesterday. Perhaps doing that will lengthen its lifespan somewhat until I upgrade this thing.

no reason to start a thread asking if its the right card for you when we dont even know what the real specs will be. rumors have been all over the place with specs so just sit tight for now.

My bet is 320 shaders and cost 50$ less then the gtx 465.
Performance on par with a gtx280 with directx 11.

Good point. Maybe it's 352? :hmm:
well maybe its got 384sp in 16sp or 24sp with some disabled just to make it 336sp so its not better than the gtx465. then they could use 2 of the gf104 with the full 384sp to make a gtx490 that would be around 300watt.

Why not just get a 5770, which is out now and doesn't suck.

Yeah, but I want a GeForce card. I've always used them and they have always been reliable. I am willing to wait (the 8800GT hasn't quite bitten the dust yet) if Nvidia is forthcoming with midrange cards that are decent.

Of course, I'll wait until the benchmarks are out to come to my final decision... but by AMD might already have the 5770's successor on the horizon. AMD is coming out with some new graphics cards next year, right? In 2011?

1st graf: Nice kool-aid :awe:

2nd graf: AMD and Nvidia are always coming out with new graphics cards. Waiting for the next best thing will ensure that you stay with that 8800GT forever.
