It's been a few years since I've upgraded my card. Actually here was my last post. I still have the 8600GT

So the past week or so I've been looking at cards and for the money I think I'm going to get this card. I don't need anything more expensive and this is probably more than I want to spend anyway.

But just looking I saw this one

Why is the 2nd EVGA card more expensive besides being 256bit vs. 192bit. Does that make much of a difference? The GTX550 seems to have better specs. (core clock and whatnot)

Being not up to speed on this stuff is it worth the price difference?

You should be looking at the performance charts. You can't tell by specs. Go to Anandtech, Toms Hardware, HardOCP, etc and look at the reviews to compare cards.

Most of those charts are all new tech unless I'm looking at it wrong. I guess my question is when I'm looking at cards. What should I be looking for? Take for instance. These two. If I went into it blind. How would I know which is better. They're essentially the same price.

WHen shopping for Nvidia, you look for the highest bus (256 bit ,384 bit), highest core count (144, 192, 336, 480), and highest core clocks.

Gtx is usually faster than gt.

Reading through some of the charts it seems that the chipset is a big one too.

I'm starting to get a feel for what is what. The chart on Toms show the 6850 well above the GTX 550.
