Could someone please explain how MIRC works ???

just curious of how this works...i seriously have no idea. I see people post about it occasionally and was wondering if it is like a file sharing utility like napster, morpheus and such

from what i read though you need commands to run things ???

well, you can start by going to www.mirc.com and dowloading the mirc client

also, that main mirc page has lots of info on what IRC is and what not

basically, if you know certain rooms to go into and certain servers to connect to, you can find lots of people with similar interests

the only major file sharing usually happens between people in forums that trade warez, movies, etc.

for starters, i can suggest connecting to any undernet server. once connected (you should be able to figure out how to connect)

you type "join #channel name" where channel name is where you want to connect on that server

i'd suggest joining #neochat

it's on undernet, and lots of AT'ers hang out there

you can create your own room as well by typing #leeland or whatever and telling people to join

it's kinda like old-school AIM

type !list
then you'll see everybody who's sharing files
read what they have, and type their trigger exactly how it is
it will open a new window and it's basically like dos from there. use DIR to list directories and use GET to get files.

If you are interested in going into it further, and you need some tutoring give me a shout. I am on IRC everynight, I have never gone anywhere else to get MP3s, which are stupidly easy to get, and evaluation software has a little bit different way of going about getting, but just as easy.

you can DCC send or receive things from people - it's peer to peer sharing. if you're asking about warez... i won't discuss it in the public forums.

to DCC you can right click the person's name in the chat window and click send, then find the file and send. or you can type in the command (the actual command escapes me... i'm braindead at the moment, now) - i think you can find this either in the help file or online.

well thanks guys for the information...i don't know if i am going to be getting into it now at the moment...and i wasn't interested in warez ( full of viruses and bugs) software, just mainly how it worked and what its purpose was....and you all did a fine job at explaining it....

if i ever do get into it i will probably drop you a line blacksoul...thanks for the offer
