Currently have a ATI 8500 that doesn't want to run on my Epox 8KHA+ at default clock speed 275/275. System hard locks everytime I try to run 3DMark2001. Clocking the video card at 250/250 resolves the problem. This is my second 8500 and both have the same problem so I think the problem lies in the motherboard.

Could someone explain what the hexadecimal system is? Can I crank up the setting to see if this solves the problem? What to set this to? Please help.

Ed

BTW, using a 400W Antec ps so power should not be the problem.

you should search ATI's site an look at the procuct number and see if you have an LE OR OEM 8500, which have a 225/250Mhz clock, you may bee getting screwed by a bad reseller/overclocked product OR just pure mismarketting. take a look huh.

My 8500 is a built by ATI retail unit clocked at 275/275. Card would not run 3D applications at stock speed but ran fine at 250/250 so I RMA'ed it. ATI tested the card and said it was fine but they changed it out anyway for another one. Unfortunately, the new card does the same thing as the other one in my system so I think the problem lies in the motherboard.

My guess is that the 8500 card is being under powered by the motherboard or the AGP signal strength is not adequate. When the system locks up, the video just freezes on the screen. What can cause this to happen?

BTW, tried all different combos of video drivers, OS's, 4in1's, ect. with the same result.

Anyone?
