Could someone please answer a simple question?

I see lots of posts with NSFW and I assume everyone knows what this means!

People get warned, banned, etc and discussions get locked or even removed if a video or picture in a link contains nudity or is really bad.

There are pictures often with words that are forbidden on the forums in plain view often very big! What about audio??? I've clicked on links that have either video clips or audio with the F word very loud. This is allowed here?

There is a thread in OT linking to a video where some boys go around knocking on doors of folks that don't have Christmas lights up; some kind of prank obviously. They use very offensive language FREQUENTLY. If someone were to make a post with those gestures they would be banned or given a vacation, no?

Finally, masking to sidestep the language filters; i.e. using v instead of u in the 'F' word. Well techincally it could be expressed the same (old coins say IN GOD WE TRVST, etc.) Ok well that's not the point but it still looks goofy.

It's not that I don't use bad language. Heck just about everyone in my family were auto and boat mechanics. Probably the reason why I don't like hearing it so often. But when someone uses the F word every other sentence that is excessive, no?

Thank you for your time. 🙂

When I come across that, I just thank the OP (or other appropriate poster) for the NSFW warning - sarcastically of course. Most of the time, they just forget to put the warning and will edit their post to indicate that the content may be NSFW.

sometimes, it depends on which mod is on duty. some are ore lenient than others.

sometimes, it depends on if there is a mod on duty. they cannot be everywhere at once.

each thread is also dealt with on a case by case basis.

hard to say, really.

Best bet is that if you feel that there is a problem with a link; let the Mods know.

As KarenMarie stated, such issues would usually be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Some mods are more tolerant than others and the context of the clip may also come into play.

Given the amount of trash that is out there, Mods could become overwhelmed by checking out everything and they need to rely on members to help identify idiots.

As far as I know, NSFW is never allowed. Neither are babe threads or bypassing the cussing filter. But posts like that slip through all the time. Like the others have said, the Mods can't be everywhere. PM them with links when you see such things.

I believe the post you were refering to was mine, and I also do not remember any language in it (I probably just ignored it, so I am not saying there is not any in it)...but I thought that post died three weeks ago lol

Anyway I understand what you mean, but NSFW and not appropriate for the forums are not the same, as your post implies...yes a video that says the F word once is not safe for work, nor is is it actually "appropriate", but my opinion on it is 1. you shouldn't be browsing ATOT and watching videos at work anyway (especially because of the reason you stated and other posters, the NSFW is forgotten, or it is something inappropriate) and 2. most here are adults and can handle a curse or to...

I try to refrain from cursing on ATOT, and I do see something wrong with someone using it in the title or excessivley thoughout the post there is a problem, by using the v instead of u, but using it once to express something in writing I do not really see a problem with it...

If the mods think that it should not be allowed, then that's fine, but I have not really seen the mods have a problem with it, so it is a touchy subject...

Anyway since my link offends you (I believe it is mine) I will edit it out... EDIT: done

BTW Mods maybe so this issue does not get out of hand you could post a temp sticky regarding NSFW and inappropriate conduct such as getting by the filter that way it does not get out of hand and all of a sudden you do not have to crack down and have people claiming they didn't know...just a suggestion, something like the "Gentlemen we have ladies here post" I believe that worked quite effectively

EDIT: btw op you are kinda new here...you might not actually have a good idea of what or what not is accepted here...I believe you may have just witnessed a time when mods are very busy with other things and cannot be sidetracked by the occasional f-bomb...I do not think the level of inapropriateness that you described exsists all the time

I agree with the OP. So much of the profanity has crept into threads... the use of fv instead of fu for f-bombs. I think the reason it's tolerated so much is that everyone who has been here for a while seems to automatically filter it out; otherwise, you'd be reading threads (the interesting ones) forever. As it is, there was a somewhat interesting thread in one of the forums that directly related to what I was working on in a grad class. I remembered the thread from 2 or 3 days earlier, found the thread, and posted it on my classes discussion site. A post that I was unable to edit. As I re-read the thread, more carefully, I realized that 2/3's of the posts were simply crude remarks; only 1/3 provided any real content. I was embarrassed to think about what my classmates and prof would think of me as a result.
