BUT... we cant get into the same game. I've tried hosting Hes tried hosting D2 says cant connect to server. UT cant see the LAN game in the multiplayer games section. This is kinda frustrating...all have netbui, ipx/spx/and tcp/ip all are running win 98se.

Is everything perhaps connected into a router (like a Linksys) for shared Internet access?

ok I think i've pretty much gotten it worked out with help from nearly networked. Yes I had to set IP addresses and subnet mask. Used the stanard 192.168.0.x and 255.255.255.0 and BINGO we linked up....Diablo 2 works great but still having problems with Q3 and UT . I get an error something like improper version when son tries to get into a game where mine is the server.( both running version 4.36) and I get a no server found for q3.(Looking for LAN)but mostly got it worked out.
Oh and I am running all to a linksys hub but not sharing internet.... Lousy 21600 connection anyway.

If I were you, I would seriously think about losing one of the protocols you mentioned. You should be able to do everything with NetBeui, or IPX/SPX. For pretty obvious reasons, you need TCP/IP, but, unless each game requires a different protocol, choose the one that is required, and drop the other one. Each protocol stack you load required memory, and processor time to service the stack, and I think it can confuse things if you have them bound in a different order, etc, etc
