Can someone walk me through setting up windows with a sata hd? Im having a lot of trouble with it

amd 3500+
512 pc3200
bfg6800 oc 128
80gb westerndigital hd

My mobo came with a floppy disk for setting up with sata hd but I dont know when to use it

Please walk me through from the very begining and assume I know nothing

I have everything plugged in right too

I was messing around in the bios and now it doesnt even get past "verifying dmi pool data" so if someone could tell me how to get past that too would be nice

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Well... put your Windows XP CD in, this should allow the PC to boot from CD. If not then go into your BIOS and change your boot device order. Boot up and keep an eye on the bottom of the screen. It will say press F6 to install a 3rd party SCSI or RAID driver.. hit F6 and follow directions... see how that goes for now. g/l

k waht should I change the boot device order to?

and will that f6 thing come up when windows xp is up? or in the bios?

thanks for the help btw

In the bios, you have to set up your boot order to CD / Sata / FDD (optional).

Then boot from your Win/XP CD. During the first few seconds of the WinXP setup, it will state Press F6 if you have any drivers to add, Press F6.

Later in the install process, Win/XP will prompt you to insert the floppy disk with the appropriate SATA driver on it.

All should be smooth sailing from there.

After you are up and running with Win/XP booting from the Sata Drive, you can change the boot order to Sata / CD / FDD if you like as this will speed up the boot process by a second or two.

if it doesnt show up as sata, then you might want to try scsi - try not to change anything else in the BIOS, if you do change something that you arent sure about, just QUIT without SAVING, then go into it again.

k I changed the boot disk order and now I presss f6

it says something like:

Needs massive sotarge device, something something something, to use a manufacturer supllied disk, press s

I press s

It then says "please instert the floppy disk into drive a then press enter". I do that, it tries to load, then it shows the same screen like it couldnt read it or nothing happened?

What should I do now?

I have tried it like 3 times and its just not working

I just put the floppy in my dads laptop and its not corrupt or anything so thats not the issue either

Should I try downloading the sata drivers from the mobo website and put those on a floppy? thats the only thing I can think of

thank you for being so helpful none of the other forums were even 1/2 as helpful

is there anything else I need to do with the hard drive before installing windows?

I think that it can read it beacuse when its booting I can press tab and it will show it alone but wont let me put it into raid because I only have one so all I can press is escape

for that screen right before I need to instert the floppy it says at the end

"for the device:
none"

Does that mean it cant read it?

i saw other forums, but this is the 'nicest'

that would be a very good idea - get the latest SATA drivers, and while you are there, get the latest BIOS upgrade, just in case.
Make sure you don't get the 2 mixed up ;-)

I gotta go bed soon, but someone else will help.
Good luck

If your motherboard has more than one SATA controller, then it is expecting you to insert the driver floppy for the second driver type. Otherwise you should be able to select continue, and it will continue with the installation of Win/XP.

my motherboard has a built in raid controller could that be it? It only came with one floppy and I was trying to use that one
