Could Someone explain the pencil trick please.......

I've some articles about overclocking the athlon but they don't seem to cover the situation for motherboards with an adjustable multiplier.
As my board has this feature what do I do with my pencil?
(please don't tell me where to stick it!!!!!!!)
I know I have to join up some contacts on the athlon but which ones?

the golden bridges need to be connected. It's over the L1 cache on the chip, that's the gold connectors in the upper right corner while looking at the chip right side up. You can find pics on tomshardware

When they say you have to connect the bridges, they are refering to connecting the ends directly accross from each other that are left over after the bridges have been cut before shipping.
