Could my HD be failing?

It wouldn't boot about two weeks ago and ran startup repair. Took several hours. The exact same thing happened again a few days ago.

Last night I was playing ME2 when the PC froze - hard lock. I had to manually shut down, and upon restarting it had to do the startup repair again. So that's three times in less than two weeks, but every time after it runs the startup repair the PC seems to work fine.

I've already backed up everything important. Should I be ordering a new HD? Or could it be malware? No scans find anything.

really, at this stage, it could be anything, like bad ram, or a flaky psu, or a gpu that is slightly out of it's socket.

I would do some more thorough diagnostics before replacing the HDD.

Check the SMART status and do a surface scan with HDTune free first though.

I think it's dead or in a coma.....

I did everything but the surface test; The diagnostics in the bios screen came up clean. Interestingly enough, the sound card had somehow become a bit loose, so I hoped maybe that had something to do with it.

It was fine again for a while, but I tried to boot today and can only get "press F1 to reattempt boot....". The PC doesn't recognize the keyboard. I put the restore disc in, but it won't boot from disk. After the bios screen it goes straight to that message.

I guess my m1790 has become my temporary main computer.
