Could my amp have blown my soundcard?

Hey,

I've been using an old Sansui reciever to power some floorstanders for the past couple days. It' being fed by the aux in from a soundblaster live. The setup's been working fine for a few days, but after shutting off both the amp and the computer last night (which I've done previously) the speakers only produce audio that sounds like some one is blowing into a mic while the music is playing. I hooked up some z-2200's to the card and they sound the same so...

A: is there someway the amp could have fried the card?
B: How can I avoid this in the future and what's a decent card can I pick up cheaply until I have this worked out?

Thanks

It shouldnt, Ive run my multimedia rigs sb live 5.1 through an Onkyo amp for about 8 months. Maybe a ground loop could do it but that usually only makes a buzz.

Are both the comp and amp plugged into grounded outlets?

well, the sansui's from 1971, so it only has two prongs, it's plugged directly into the outlet where the computer is, but the coputer's on a surge protector, so it seems something must have gone back through the 3.5mm jack, but then again I know very little about these things.

There should be a ground screw on the amp, you can run a wire from that to the comp case to make sure the ground potential is the same.
