Could Malwarebytes or Ad-Aware cause this problem?

About a week ago I installed Ad-Aware (free version) and Malwarebytes Pro (when it was $14.99). Since I did that, I cannot connect to SDer Cluub. Whenever I try to connect to it, browser (IE-6) shows Address "http://ccccpn.com/staples/index.php" for half of a second. Then it reroutes me to www.staples.com, and that's where I end up. If I Google it, no matter what link I select, the same thing happens. I've removed Malwarebytes and Ad-Aware, yet I still cannot get to SDer Club. Windows XP Pro, IE-6. I’ve restore the defaults in Internet Options – Advanced, and reset every thing I can find in there. Turned the Firewall off. Using Avast free version. Any suggestions of what I might look for, or try? I don’t know very much, except enough to be dangerous – obviously! Yes - I changed to IE-8, didn't like it a bit, so I restored to old stuff (I'm old, too)! TIA.

The programs you installed should not and do not cause these issues. I have them on my pc and the site loads fine. Go into the IE6 internet options, clear all your browsing history and cookies. Also flush the DNS cache

C>ipconfig /flushdns

.. then try the site again. You should set all your browers to: 0 days to keep pages in memory, clear cookies on exit, reload page on new visit to web site (instead of using cached pages)

You might want to try Firefox as your web browser ... very nice program.
If that also can't access the site, I would suggest a check for malware
or other issue.

I have experienced this issue at several of my client PC's, after the install of malware bytes or ad aware they tend to cause these type of issues, but that doesnt mean its a bad program, it works fine on some of my installs, but i dont recommend it for daily checks, clean your existing malware & then remove them from the system.

You probably have a spyware or malware that is not recognized by the system,

try - combofix - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

scroll down, you should see bleepingcomputer as a link, save to desktop and run, the system will reboot by itself, if you have any antivirus or spyware tools, disable them before you run,

follow instructions from the site above.... good luck

bruceb: Thanks for the response. I performed the suggested items, but still cannot access SDer Club. I did not understand the ipconfig /dataflush one so I called my son for some help, and he got me through it okay. So - he has a different ISP (Verizon DSL) and I asked him to see how his system worked for SDer. He accessed the website, so (I know!) I gave him my user ID and password to see if he could log on. He filled in the info, pressed "submit" and - was redirected to www.staples.com. Then we could not access the website again. Then I went to do some wiring for my #2 son, who is also a Roadrunner (former Adelphia) ISP user. We tried his system, got to SDer Club website, tried to log in, and - you guessed it - got rerouted to Staples. Then we could not access the website again. So I finished the work there and came home.

rameezs: Thank you for your response. I downloaded and ran "combofix". Then I rebooted the PC. Then I tried to access SDER Club, and I got to the website. Tried to log in, but as soon as I clicked on submit, the rerouting to www.staples.com look place, and I cannot access the SDer website again. Hmmmm! Three different PC's, 2 different ISP's. Same result. I'm exasperated, but I'm thinking it may not be my PC. Could someone who can access the site actually login, and see if it let's them log in? Thanks for your patience with me!

So lets get this straight, a shady looking web site specializing in selling staples coupon codes now redirects to staples... or a site that looks like staples.

You have proven that it is not your pc two times, yet you only "think so"

REALITY CHECK. Stop trying to rip off staples.

Looks as though you make it your habit to not be any help to anyone, just crap around. You're a sanctimonious donkey-hole. What's an acronym?

Get off of IE6, if you do indeed have malware I would bet that it was either because of the security issues with IE6 or a security issue with Adobe reader.

dfnkt: Okay, that's great suggestion. I have Windows 7 waiting. Tried to do a Custom Install tonight, but after loading combofix, the recovery console is now installed, and I cannot delete it using Microsoft Technet procedure (the cmdcons folder on my C: drive cannot be deleted). Guess I'll dig around tomorrow for a fix to that problem. Thank you!
