I just got a call from one of the local pimps, er, *ahem,* I mean IT contracting agencies. It seems that I made good on an inteview with one of their clients and they have offered the postion to me! I would be a content developer for web/server services and the contract would last at least six months, probably a year or more.
However, I am guardedly optimistic in that they say they want me and I could start as soon as the funding rolls through. In the good old days, it was a done deal and one could start the very next day. Now it seems like a week or two might go by before I will start. I won't say I'm employed until I feel that electronic bank draft trickle into my parched bank account.
There is another job I really want but they haven't gotten back to me yet. They've been playing phone tag with my references and I hope that my interviews and references will make me the strongest choice for their opening (Project Manager). They narrowed the candidates down to me and two others. Too bad I can't ask them to identify the other two. I'm sure my friends and I could persuade them that they really don't want that job.
This time of unemployment has been the toughest I have ever gone through. I guess gone are the days where one leaves a job just because they feel like it and to pick up another one when they feel ready.
