im kind of a computer idiot as of now, so i wasnt real sure about this... but, could you build an mp3 player, one just as small as the ones out, perhaps one that plays videos even, just with a bit of an uglier case probably, ive got one, so i dont need one, im just kinda curious

if so... what about an os, could you just use one for say an archos or an ipod? or would those not work, and would the parts be too big to begin with that would make building it worth the cost to get ones small enough? and what parts would you even need? assuming you could do it...

my friend did it for his car but it was actually pretty big...
when you turned it would do the no videocard and keyboard beeps.. SO LOUD.

i think his operating system was windows 95 he used winamp to play the mp3s.

The only way I could see to build one almost as small as the manufactured ones would be to cannibalize parts from other small handhelds, like a PDA, and write software/firmware for it so that it can access the tiny hard drive. I imagine you'd have to duct tape it all together.

Of course, at that point, why bother? You can just buy a PDA that plays MP3s, or an MP3 player. I think this falls into the "not worth it" category.
