Could it be? CPU limited at 1680x1050 w/ 4xAA 2.7ghz X2?

System in sig... when it gets hotter I'll lower my OC down to 2.62 during gaming ... anyway I was running some benches on DOD-S and I noticed that I got basically no FPS increase when going from 690/800 to 700/900 on my XTX... In BF2 with all settings on high, HQAF and 4x AA I get +130fps which I'm thinking closes in on the realm of where one would start to see CPU limitation.

Anyway, I took my CPU from 2.62 to 2.7 again and ran the bench and gained 4 fps... what do you guys think? Could it really be CPU limited to a fair degree at that res and w/ those settings? In DOD Source I have 16HQAF/4xAA, HDR, etc etc

I don't think there's a CPU out that's not a bottleneck for an X1900XT-X, just OC as much as possible and enjoy it.

Btw, I am also having the same experience in 3DMark05, in terms of a CPU OC making more of a difference than a massive memory or core oc... I never thought I would see the day so soon when a 2.7ghz x2 would bottleneck a card at my rez

The XTX eats the Source Engine alive, seriously, it's that powerful. Now, stop being in awe of it and play! :D

It seems like most of these new generation cards only start getting bogged down at 1900x1200 or higher resolutions. I couldn't imagine playing at that resolution. Heh...

Source is very CPU intensive. But I must ask, with a 1900XTX, why are you benchmarking DOD:S instead of playing it? Doesn't seem logical to me.

Becuase the power of the hardware is at least as fun to me as the gaming itself.

And I must say, on a scale of 1-10, the XTX (particularly w/ massive OC) has impressed me at an 11.. I cannot wait for R600 and/or G80

I bench to make sure there's nothing wrong with my card.

Frackal if I were you I'd just keep my processor @ 2.6 and call it a day.

Yeah, it's cool enough. At 1.5v when my AC is keeping things decent I get ~38c 50% and about 43-47c full load (which never happens anyway in normal computing for long)
