Could I use a three way HDMI splitter cable backwards as a switchless switch?

Dumbass OP (me) assumed that you could get simply a cable that split the HDMI signal, like an RCA splitter. They only sell the active boxes apparently, so It'd just be worth it to go with an active switchbox with remote.
