LOL....that is what it will say about any single cpu tasked app that runs with HT enabled...trust me it is using what would be 100% if you turn HT off.....Just go into Bios and turn it off....it will not screw up winxp at all...I did hundreds of times in my testing I did about 1-1/2 years ago....
With winxp I have never seen an app do better with it off when running 1 app.....multitasking sometimes HT would slow down things and not better prioritize as I would have liked it to, but it was still very smooth even when gamiong. It seemed to know to give my gaming (what little of it) about 90-95% power at all times...BUt that was while doing things like encoding and Folding....
I dont think you will see really anything of an improvement...
I'm able to overclock a little higher with HT OFF.... Just built my first HT P4 rig a few weeks ago... a 640 with an Asus P5P800..... Superpi ran a little faster.... But not much....
Yea Impaqt thats what I'm thinkin' of trying too. I have a P4P800-VM and a P4 3.0GHz. I want to get a coolermaster watercooler kit (if I could find it) and OC the P4 and Ti4600.
Well if you want to OC a tad higher then probably yes....I though you meant at same clock speed....By shutting HT off you will reduce the internal heast of the chip and very well may be able to OC higher...that is a no-brainer....
I guess gamers dont care so much about the hT but in some apps (other then gaming) you will take a big hit.....
