Hello all,

I've been looking at a few of your reviews for motherboards and have decided that you are the forum to ask for help on! I basically have come across 4 candidates that i just cant choose between.

I'll be getting a quad core, some nice ram and lightly overclocking them both. I'm not really interested in ddr3 or peryn future proofing as I figure this machine will last at least 4 years and I can always push it further. The machine is for media and photoshop, etc and the only games i will be playing are retro emulators.

so here is my list in order of preference:

- Asus striker extreme

- Abit IN9 32X-MAX

- Gigabyte GA-N680SLI-DQ6

- Evga nForce 680i SLI

There is about £20 between them (interestingly in the same order) and its my understanding that i wouldn't notice the difference in their performance. I do like the pretty lights on the Abit but i don't need the wifi. The striker has a whole list of features that sound very nice like NOS overclocking but it has a few bad reviews and is the most expensive.

Could someone please put me out of my misery?

You stated you won't be gaming...the Nvidia SLI boards take huge amounts of power compared to anything from Intel. And why bother with that extra heat output if you won't need SLI at all? The Ip35 Pro is only $180 and has dual LAN, IEE1394 etc It uses the P35 chipset and can reach 500+FSB pretty easy.

BTW: My EVGA 680i SLI board burned up literally...it caught fire within hours after installing it.
