Could GPU cause shutdown?

My friend built a computer rescently and when he started using it, it would shutdown. Everytime he got back on he would start playing CS again... then the computer would shut off after about 10 -30 mins. Today he left his computer on before he went to work, and the computer stayed on that whole time untill he got back which was 5 hours, then he started to play cs with me again and it shut off. I'm thinking he either has bad drivers and needs to reinstall them, or somehow when his gpu is under load it shuts down the computer.

Just wondering if anyone has any other ideas, thanks

when i watched him put it together, the cpu fan/heatsink secure clip wouldnt even go over, if you force it, the mobo would crack, it was even hard getting the 2 side clips to hook on, i dont even think it will come off if he needed to, unless he bent the clips, he says PC probe says his cpu is 36c

Tell him to run Prime95 and see if it shuts off immediately after starting to Prime. That would indicate an overheating processor. Any idea what kind of PSU he has?

It sounds like the computer is shutting off when it has a large load to handle such as playing games. It's likely since you said he left it on and went to work and the computer was just idling. Try re-applying thermal compound onto the CPU.
