Could GM bring back camaro/firebird on solstice platform?

They have the engine, they have a chassis, just make it a coupe and start selling it again.

No. A 4 cylinder roadster-type vehicle could NEVER replace the F-body.

It's like when Ford tried to replace the Mustang with the car that became the Probe. The outcry from enthusiasts was too much for them to ignore.

It would NEVER work.

There is a company already slapping ls1s into them so yeah but they would have to stretch and maybe widen the frame. camaro/firebirds aren't 2 seaters they are 4 seaters that only seat 2 🙂.

Didn't matter...it was based on the Mazda 626 FWD platform....no true sports coupe can be FWD

GM has so many troubles they don't have time to worry about bringing back a model that lost money for them the last time around.

Packaging problems already inherent in the Kappa platform would make a Kappa based Firebird/Camaro impossible. The hard points can't be changed so you'd be screwed.

The F-body was virtually unchanged from 1982-1992, and didn't change much from 1993-2002 when it was discontinued. Trust me, it would have been killed off LONG before it was if it had been losing money for them that whole time.

It would have done a hell of a lot better in the later years if they had actually ADVERTISED it. When was the last time you saw any sort of advertisement for the Firebird / Camaro? Sometime in the '80s, perhaps? Cause I can't remember any.

If they brought it back - and did it RIGHT - I think it would sell pretty well (like Ford did with the new Mustang). Like it or hate it (and most seem to like it), you can't deny that it's doing well.

On the other hand, if they "brought it back" in some sort of V6 / 4 door / FWD abomination, it would be a laughingstock. I would hope they're not THAT stupid.

The only way it would work is in a V8 RWD coupe. Base 6 cyls would have to be made as well, but obviously the V8 would have to be optional.

Either do it right with the F-body in bringing it back, or dont do it at all.

It would need to be rwd, a 2 door coupe and have atleast 400-450hp for the top engine package. There could be different engine packages from 6 to 4 cyclinders, but there has to be a high power motor avalible. And one thing that is stopping that from happening is the corvette. GM doesnt want anything to be close to their flag ship corvette, so they cut corners with power. Dont get me wrong, I love corvettes, but GM has to be able to offer something with lots of power at a relativly cheap price, just about every automaker in the world does.

Why the hell would they do that? The solstice is a roadster. The camaro and firebird are the opposite.

Because the GTO is no longer in production.

I saw somnething a few months ago about GM bringing back the Camaro in 2007 on a RWD platform. But since then the platform has been canceled leaving the Camaro up in the air.
