Can you believe that they even made 256MB SIMMs? I didn't, until I saw this. Could be a hot deal, for those wanting to run Windows XP on their old 486-66s, with a brand-new 256MB upgrade. 🙂
Just think, if you had one of those dual-processor server 486 boards, with 8 72-pin SIMM slots, you could upgrade to 2GB of RAM - on a 486! 🙂

In case you were wondering, yes, it was kind of a joke, but ... I do have a (used, probably dead) Tricord "SuperServer" motherboard, that indeed was a dual-processor 486 board, and has mucho SIMM slots (along with two EISA busses, three PICs, redundant PSU connectors, and requires a custom HAL to work with NT.) Picked it up for $1 out of a junk bin at a computer show. No CPU cards included. 🙁
I did pick up some 64MB SIMM chips a couple of years ago, for $99 each, thought I was getting a deal then. Never seen any SIMM modules bigger than that. Considering that EDO/SIMM prices have gone way up, that might be a deal for the 0.0000001 percent that still have need for SIMMs.
You are all correct though, you could get a 1Ghz Duron, motherboard, and 256MB PC133 SDRAM DIMM for around the same price.

Although this is post was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, anyone seriously interested in this deal should made DOUBLE-SURE that your mama-board supports SIMMs this big. And, assuming this deal is for 256 megs on one SIMM, remember that you have to add SIMMs in pairs.
