hi!

pls help me out, i am experienced only in o/c Intel systems. But i got no idea of a AMD chip or chipset. i have not touched one before. pls dun laugh.

Help a newbie here. :)

Why is it so many people have been complaining abt chipping their core?? Very seldom on a intel core. is it cos its soft? lousy manufacturing? Pls explain to me. I'm scared my money will go down the drain if i get one myself.

And is there alot of compatibilities issues with hardware or drivers? Or even Rams/HDDs??

And i need one AMD system urgently, pls help out. CPU+MOBO+HSF. Must o/c 900-1ghz. i only have $255 to spent.

And is a Slot Mobo or a Socket Mobo better for the long run? Thnks.

pls ICQ/PM/Email me.

You can get a Duron 600 (which will usually go to 900 fairly easily), a KT7, and 128 of ram for... oh... $225 or so.... maybe less if you buy it in the for sale/trade forum. The HS/F would cost you about $20 depending on what you want to get.

freemanteo: People have problems with cracking their cores because of the way the processor and socket are designed, it makes it very easy to apply pressure unevenly when installing the HSF, and thus break the core.

There are very few incompatibility issues with hardware or software of any kind.

For the long run socket is definitely a lot better, AMD is already nearly done phasing out its slot processors.

If you're looking to buy that stuff cheap, look on the For Sale/Trade forums.

If you want to spend a little extra cash, and get some better performance, get the KT133A. As for hs/f's you just need to be smart and install it correctly. My friend had a Diamond MX400, and it did not work with his KT7-Raid. (I've got an ISA sound card if you want to buy one :) ) $13 shipped :)
