Seems incredibly useful but I just don't feel like building the damned thing, look at the length of the instructions page. Has anyone done this and could share, or can tell me if it's worth doing?

Nutty, I just finished burning one a few moments ago. It is actually simpler than it seems although I suppose it helps if one has previously made a BartPE disc (which I just updated after having to use it last night and figgered heck I'll try UBCD4Win too).

It's good to have something like this for emergencies even if just to run chkdsk or copy some files &c. easier than from a Windows console boot. Having network support with anti-virus and a browser to get info/help with solving a critical problem could be invaluable as well, especially in lieu of regular backups.

Better to have it and not need it than the reverse ;)

Could you make an ISO for me of the CD you just burned? I have such limited time but really want to toy around with this. If you don't have a program to make ISOs you could always just rar the entire contents of the disc and I could take it from there.

If you don't want to that's fine too. :)

pebuilder (nu2.nu) makes the iso, which is mostly comprised of your XP CD and so in the case of UBCD4Win with the network/SCSI driver pack is almost 400MB. If I had unlimited bandwidth I would zap it over to you or host it but I don't. It's so easy to build -basically download and run three files and click through a few menus while your XP CD is inserted... you will laugh after its done :D

Otherwise, I bet you could find a torrent. But if you do take a few minutes to do it yourself then it will be child's play to update it in the future... kinda like the give a dude a fish vs teach a dude to fish schtick.

Could I make it a DVD, as well? All I have are DVDs.

Sure, and it should load faster too. I've been thinking about putting a few of these "boot CD's" on a DVD or even a USB flash drive. Will have to poke around for a menu method I suppose...

Ooh...a flash drive. How can this be done?

At one point, I had a boot CD that had the UBCD (DOS), UBCD4win, and Acronis True Image on it. Seriously though, making a UBCD4win CD or DVD doesn't take long at all if you use PE Builder and use the default plugins.
