Could a rat(or some rodent) be causing out network to slow down?

Network has been really slow. Traced in to a port with over 100k collisions in a 8 hours. Opened up the ceiling panel and traced the wire until it was inaccessible. It looks like something might have chewed a little on the wire. No other ports have collisions.

Collisions = something is running in 1/2 duplex. You should never see collisions on a full duplex network. This is also a classic symptom of a locked port config some where the should be set back to auto port speed / type. Auto port speed can fail if a pair is in bad shape.

thanks everyone, frayed wire going to a switch that went bad that auto neg to half duplex.

So... was the rat perpetrating a man-in-the-middle attack against your network, or just trying to hook up a computer to run some torrents.....

Couldn't resist. Sorry.... =)
