Could a Intel C216 based motherboard (HP Z220) boot from a PCIe SSD?

A friend has a HP Z220 he does graphics work on. He's fill up his 128Gb boot drive. He wants to upgrade. I can't find any evidence that his PC could or could not boot from a PCIe SSD drive.

I was thinking a Intel 750 Series might be a good fit for him.

If not I'll probably tell him to get a samsung pro series.
