Could a hunger strike work?

I've always been fascinated by Gandhi's hunger strike and what he was able to accomplish. Here was a guy who weighed no more than 130 soaking wet. Yet, thru his hunger strike and other protest he was able to bring Great Britain to its knees.

What about today? What effect would a hunger strike have on society? Would it make a difference? Imagine going on a hunger strike because state taxes are too high? Or, going on a hunger strike until Congress implemented tighter gun laws. Could the hunger strike affect the way Congress conducts business? If it worked so well for Gandhi, there is a good chance that it will work today.

Only if it was someone everyone respected and loved... like Tom Hanks

It would only work if you are already a known and respected leader or individual part of a larger movement. Otherwise there are way too many stories vying for people's attention for anyone to care.

A Joe schmoe wouldn't have the same impact like Ghandi? Makes sense I guess.

Does anyone remember when Homer went on a hunger strike? It was because the Isotopes were quiet l you moving to another city, and Howie found out. I think it was called Hungry Hungry Homie.

Here it is. 🙂
