Could a fried CPU cause...

Yes it is possible. When I first built my C2D P65 rig, I got the same symptoms everything spins up but no video when I finally resolved it, I had over tightened the mounting screws on my HSF causing the mobo to bow just enough that the CPU pins were not making proper contact. I suspect a dead CPU would act the same.

I think that may have been the problem with my rig. It came back to life after a week of being 6 feet under. Maybe the ThermalRight Ultra 120 is too heavy. ;)

But the Q6600 is stable at 3.0Ghz. New mobo on the way which would allow me to up the cpu voltage (current board reboots in a never-ending loop if I try). Maybe I can hit 3.2/3.4 (cooling is the only concern). I'm still passively cooling, so worst case scenario, I'll add a couple fans.
