Today they switched over to Citi and when I went to get gas in the morning, I totally forgot to bring the new Costco Citi card, so my old Amex was rejected. Luckily Costco already have extra attendant at hand to help out, as they do realized that some customers might forgot about the switch day. I was given a $5 gas card to fill my gas tank, free of charge after showing them my old Amex Costco card.

damn, that's class. I wonder how much that will cost Costco these couple of days?

Following Costco Customer Service lead from an email response I got, I waited until after June 21st, before calling Citi back to verify my account existence. It shouldn't exist as I cancelled my Amex cobranded account back in April but did exist according to Citi when I called at the beginning of this month.

So, I dialed the same number I called previously (back of card CS#) and was informed that there were too many calls and instructed to call back later. Then the called ended when Citi's automated system hung up on me. LOL

I haven't found a reason to be unhappy with our Costco/Citi card yet. It has the same credit limit and payment date. The transition has been as painless as can be.

I tried setting up the new Citi Costco card the other day and I can't see a way to add it to my existing Citi account, it looks like it wants to make a new one. There's no way I'm dealing with the crap, I'll close out the credit account first. Anyone figure out how to add it to an existing Citi account?

It found my account right away.

Are you clicking on "Register for Online Access"?

the citi Costco shows up on your Citibank page automatically?
(I have a citi forward that I can see along with my bank acct.)

You have to click the "register for online access". It will then ask you for your card info, then phone number/email, then it should pop up saying something along the lines of "we've found this citi account".

I have the citi mastercard and there wasn't any pop up saying "we've have found this account" when I attempted the Costco visa online setup. As a mater of fact I had to setup a new online account. Also the reward carryover are from Amex seems less than I remembered it to be.

Nope, didn't happen for me. But was does work is just skip the new account creation, go into your existing account, click on "Profile & Settings", then the last entry under My Settings is "Link/Unlink a Credit Card". Using that will allow you to attach the card to your existing account, it worked for me.

I did in a round about way.

1) Before visiting http://www.citi.com/CostcoSetup to activate my new card, I thought I would be smart and proactively login to my existing citicards.com account, amirite? Wrong, it didn't like it and asked me to logout.

2) So I went to the /CostcoSetup link, had to enter my new card number, expiration date, code, also my DOB and last 4 of SSN for verification.

3) Since I had previously logged in, my username was already prefilled but there was an option to create another Citi login (WTF would I do that)? Anyway it worked and I was able to login. My balance, limit and rewards seems to be right.

4) I was also prompted to update phone numbers and provided my cell just in case my card is compromised again. My cell phone is usually with me and it's nice to be alerted via text/push notification of any suspicious account activity. Actually it would be nice if my credit cards were never compromised again, LOL that will never happen.

You should be able to link your new card with your existing Citi card.

It was completely painless for me. Took all of 3 minutes to complete everything. Auto added itself to my current citi account without me having to do anything.

*shrug*.

Just noticed this new card does not pay 4% off gas at Kroger (and probably most other supermarkets).

My card agreement does not say that, it says there will be only 1% back on gas purchased at supermarket stations or clubs other than Costco.

That is ENTIRELY dependent upon how the super market bills your credit card for gas methinks.

Everytime I have a 5% Category for gas I go to my local supermarket and fill up - Always hits the 5% every time.

Anytime there is a credit card transaction a code is sent with the transaction that dictates a "Category" of the purchase. So if the grocery store gas station just sends everything as grocery store - it will never hit.

I got 1% on the Kroger Fuel purchase.
I'm assuming the 4% is only on traditional big boy gas stations (Speedway, Shell, BP, etc).
Mom and pops, supercenters and grocery stores will likely be 1%.

Agreed.
There must be smaller margins on supermarkets and grocery stores.
The credit card company probably doesn't pass on the same discounts to the shop owners needed to supply the 4% back to consumers.
