Sell your sucky Plextor 12x and get a Sanyo 16x :)

I found early reports of the drive on another forum cdrom-guide.com forums

Those forums are pretty active, a great place to get information about getting your drive to work at full speed, updating firmware, burning software to use, etc.

Happy new year to all!

Hehehe...if they were $99, I'd buy the "exectutive?" Costco membership that lets you get in an hour or so before the general public....

For $99, I'd snatch up a whole bunch and sell em. Yeah I know that's not nice, but at a profit of $100+ each, I can live with myself :)

how much are 16x blanks? 12x certified blanks are cheap and reliable. the only reason to get a 16x burner would be to burn at 16x and if they are $1-2, it's not worth it.

I believe most 12x CD-R's will burn at 16x. I bought a 20 pack of Imation CD-R's at BestBuy this weekend with slimline cases for $5 and the package originally stated 12x but a sticker had been placed over it that says 16x. That makes it .25 cents each with the cases. I'm sure price per disc on other non-case included deals makes it much better...

I have used TDKs for quite some time now, and they are pretty reliable for me. I have never made a coaster with my TDK VeloCD 12x. Anyway, the point is, I have started using some TDKs that have an "Any Speed Rating." They burn fine at 12x, has anybody burned @ 16x with these monkies?

The sanyos unlike the plextors have been unable to read subchannel data in previous drives 12x10x32. Doest this hold true for the 16x?

DongTran -- your TDK 12x10x32 is really a Plextor, just like the Iomega and Creative 12x10x32! Great drive.

Yeah, I know. Only mine has the cool blue tray and a different firmware revision. I was smelling something fishy when I noticed that they eject at the EXACT same speeds. :)

hey guys, don't u all think the 12X write is fast enough already? I do think faster speed on the CD writer don't mean much anymore once u have a 12X writer,
Alex

The difference between 12x and 16x is slim to none. Assuming its perfect and burns at exactly 16x and 12x, an 80 min cd takes 5 min to burn with the 16x and 6 min 40 sec with 12x. I have an 8x burner, ordered the iomega one, but even with those two drives its not gonna be much of a difference for cd-r's. Unless something that totally blows away whats out right now comes out(like 40x write speed), 12x should be fine. I reckon cd burners are at the end of the line, DVD burners now:D
