I have some left over from the last time they offered this promotion and the +R's are made by Ritek... Can't remember the exact code at the moment though.

I've been using the TDK Printable +R and -R from Costco for weeks now...and just picked up a few more spindles. No problem buringing on my Plextor 8x or either of my NEC 3500/3520a burners.

They are not "hub printable"

After using my Canon IP4000 print on a batch, I use a can of satin clear coat to waterproof the ink....othwise they'll smear

Nero info tool shows "Ritek R03" on my older discs... I check the spindles I just picket up (16x) and let ya all know.

Anyhow.... none of my company's branches have complained about the discs, and neither have hundreds of customers.....

My $.02

Hub printable means you can print the inside ring too, where it is usually clear in regular CDs. So you get the WHOLE CD printed. I think they look a lot nicer esp if you design your own. At 20cents a DVD its pretty cheap for printables. Good for nonbackup stuff.

I have read some of the other reviews by people who report poor writing results (coasters). I have written about 15 of these on a NEC 2500A without any problem at 8X. So my experience thus far has been good for these cheaply priced disks.

However, some tv shows that I burned onto Beall disks in 2001 now won't play on any computer or dvd player.

I would like to avoid this problem in the future. Does any one know if these disks might have a longevity problem (i.e., won't play a few years from now)?

I used Nero Info tool on the Costco 16x +R media...here is the info
-------------------------------------------------
Nero CD-DVD Speed: Disc Info
Basic Information
Disc type: : DVD+R
Book Type : DVD+R
Manufacturer: : CMC
MID : CMC MAG M01 (000)
Write speeds: : 4 X - 6 X - 8 X - 12 X - 16 X
Blank Capacity : n/a

Here is the older 8x TDK Media I've been using till now
--------------------------------------------------
Nero CD-DVD Speed: Disc Info
Basic Information
Disc type: : DVD+R
Book Type : DVD+R
Manufacturer: : Ritek
MID : RITEK R03 (002)
Write speeds: : 2.4 X - 4 X - 6 X - 8 X
Blank Capacity : 4.38 GB
: 4482 MB
: 4700375040 bytes

I ran Nero CD-DVD speed...created a data-disc using the program and did a "quality" test using the app also... below are the result... and it appears the newer CMC-16x media did better than the Ritek-8x

The beginning part of that quoted article was not included in Spartacus' post! Here is the complete article:

"Fakes

Luckily, it does not happen often, but it does happen often enough to be a major annoyance to media buyers everywhere. Most fake media comes from Hong Kong, as a general rule. Fake media tends to float around Europe and Asia more than it does the USA. Fake media is normally sold in flea markets, on eBay and online. Major brand name media sold in stores is probably never going to be fake.

TYG02 = This was faked by INFOSMART (Hong Kong) in 2004-2005. Some OPTODISC media was also reported to carry this code. Mitsui is also faking them in their USA and Europe plants. The fakes are rumored to be for "improved 8x media detection" but low quality media is low quality, regardless of the media ID.
MCC02RG20, MCC003 = This was faked starting in mid 2005, again by InfoSmart of Hong Kong.
TTG02, TTH01, TTH02 = These are apparently "legal" fakes made by Mitsui, with permission by TDK to use the code. However the media is quite poor, not true TDK media. Another 2005 fake."

As you can see, the TDKs from Costco are most certainly NOT the fakes.

I was there and saw the deal. I wanted to get some but I didn't have a coupon. I know it's too late, but where to you get the coupon. The guy at the store said they mailed them out but I'm a member and I didn't get one. Is that true or do they randomly hand them out at the store.

if the sale is still going, just tell the cashier that you forgot your coupon, they'll just scan one from their cash register for you. i've done that many times on different items. they don't care.
