costco return policy is real

I bought a 17" lcd a little over two years ago from costco for somewhere around 470, but not sure of amount, dont really remember. it was 4 sumthin tho. anyways, i accidentally cracked it this week 🙁, remembered the costco thread (how ironic what i wrote in there eh?) and gave it a try. They asked what was wrong with it, i told them "cracked" and pointed to it. they said "ok", grabbed a post it, made a little note, and put it on the screen. They proceeded to give me store creidit for $417. now here's the kicker: no receipt, no id, no box, no cd, no manual, and a different monitor cable (accidentally swapped at a lan party). i dont think you can beat costco in returns.

By only letting you in if you have a membership and having customers that spend at least $100 every time they enter... This is a silly question. 🙂

They count on people being honorable.

Regardless, if you bought it at costco and return it even 6 month later they loose money.

Of course they lose money, but they probably count on people to not do that, just like most stores. And i think his case may be a little different from usual. They probably track your ID and see how many returns you make.

Costco is usually a once a much shopping experience for me. They have good prices on meats and various other food products.. For some reason, every time I go there they have something new I need to buy.

They must not post their return policy or rely on other areas besides electronic to produce profit.

I think i read that something like 80% of their profits come from membership fees. And if their profit margin goes too high, they lower their prices in order to pass it on to the consumer. Supposedly the GMs will have to answer to the CEO if their profit margins keep rising past a certain level.

ya, but how many people are in your family?

i usually spend an average of 75 a week at costco. Usually buy
1.case of snapple
2. case of water
3.beef
4.chicken
5.fish
6.bakery item (muffins usually)
7. a dvd, book, something misc that i really dont need

Its not bad considering this enough for two people for three square meals a day for a week.

What's scary is that it's true.
