Thinking about becoming a costco member and since they don't take mastercard I guess I would also need to get an amex. Is costco worth the hassle?

If you'd really use it. I use my mom's membership on a regular basis and it's really nice for buying things in bulk. I'm learning how to freeze and store foods so I can have more of a variety and have to go shopping less, so it's working out well for me...

You can get away using your mom's membership? Here they're pretty strict about that kind of stuff. You can't even get into the store unless you display them your own membership, let alone actually being able to buy anything.

I think you can have 1 other person on the membership without any additional fees. That person would have an id too. If you want a 2nd additional person, its like $20 more.

I haved a sams club membership. its great for a few things but you really need to check prices. some items are actually more expensive. I am sure Costco is the same.

though if we had a Costco near i would have that as a membership heh

Wouldn't matter here. You can add additional family members to the membership for like $20, but you still won't be able to share the same card.

I know my sister-in-law is on the card too, I think it was $20 for that. Worth it tho.

That's just my AMEX cash back, any membership can get that. My executive membership check was close to $500.

Everyone can get cashback with the Costco Amex. 1% at Costco, 2% travelling, 3% at restaurants.

Given my daily commute, I EASILY make back my membership fee in savings on gas purchased at Costco.

The roasted chicken and other good stuff are just a nice perk. :D

I think it's worth if depending on what you buy.

Gas I save about 0.50/tank on (vs. AMPM), cases of soda I usually save an average of $2/36 on. Hot wings are a big saver, getting 3x more for 50% more. Saving about $10/bag. If you're into drinks like Red Bull and Rockstar, it becomes a no brainer. You can save $20 on 24.

You can buy stuff there with an ATM card just fine, but I just submitted an application for a nice Amex card w/ a low fixed rate and no annual fee. So it's all good. (I think my credit rating must've taken a jump past a certain point as one of my other CCs also is giving me an automatic boost to a higher level card)

What kind of hot wings are you getting there? I got a bag of hot wings there that I didn't care for. But I got a bag of just plain Tyson chicken wings (unflavored) and a jug of Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Wing sauce, and it's much better. Cheaper than the hot wings too. Takes slightly more effort to cook - you have to rinse the wings with hot water before cooking and then toss them in a bowl with the sauce afterwards. Very good, very messy.

its a great deal.

you can really save money if you are disciplined, cause you may tend to end up buying stuff you dont need - but that is like anywhere, though the temptation is greater there perhaps.

but i have priced things that any household uses such as bottled water, paper towels, toilet paper etc and the per unit cost is definitely noticeably cheaper at costco.

plus the company gives its employees wages and benefits far beyond what other similar businesses do, so supporting costco is better than supporting sam's club.

Tyson makes better breaded strips, but Foster Farms makes MUCH better hot wings. I've found Frank's sauce to have too strong of a vinegar taste for me. I usually put some Jim Beam wing sauce on them to make the flavor perfect.
