Cost Viable Alternative, or foolish venture?

well, i'm buying a dell, because i'm an idiot. but i want good speakers.

so, is the Altec Lansing ada745's 4.1 speaker system a cost viable alternative to the 995's 5.1 system, for about 140 dollars less?

Only reason I ask is because i'm rather cash strapped, and am trying to keep the system minus monitor under 1900 dollars.

Also, just to save me the trouble of posting another thread, is the upgrade from the 80 gig hard disk to the 120 gig w/ cache really worth it? i am not sure i'll really need the space, but i really dont even know what a cache does and why i need it. any help?
 
never mind...deal i found was for students
but anyway...i'd hold out for a special deal from DELL....with the holidays coming around, something should come up.....that setup you posted is awfully expensive...Do a search for DELL in the HotDeal froums, you'll see what I mean....guys were getting pretty much same setup for 1/2 that.
 
1900 and you call it cash strapped? holy christ, i wish id had 1900 bucks when i built my last box (which cost about 700)

*sigh* i must be sub-poor or something
