Anyone have a really good calculator that includes repairs, gas prices, mileage per year.. pretty much any factor you can think of? I'm trying to get my $/mile raised at my job. I live in NE Florida and currently get $0.35 per mile. Seems kinda low.

Don't have much to help you with the justification off the top of my head but I get 48.5 cents/mile which is the IRS' number. Most companies just go off that.

You could use the federal guidelines for approved company business as a start:

48.5 cents per mile if paying for gas
43 cents per mile if company pays for gas

1-2 cents per mile for transmission rebuild, which assumes 200,000 miles or so and a final price of $3k. Maybe something for the engine as well? I haven't driven a car long enough to experience needing an engine rebuild or something yet though.

Basically, oil changes, gas, insurance, and maybe car washes are going to be the biggest factors in this.

Edit: Tires - factor these in as well.

That will get him only 1/3 of the cost (est $0.15/mile) vs the $0.35/mile taht his boss is offering.

It is best to take the $0.35 that the boss offers then file for the extra $0.10/mile difference.
that generates about $0.38/mile back to him.

However, he also has to use the Form 2106 and Schedule A.

Unless gas is significantly cheaper in your area than the rest of the country his argument holds no water. Seems like a cheap bastard to me...how many miles are you usually driving?

Yep, I'd say he's just being cheap, nothing wrong with it, but I would factor in as much as you can for your numbers and get what you can from him.

Maybe search around for how the IRS came up with that number? It's not like they just made it up... tax hating aside, I'm sure there was a procedure they followed.
