I am considering two cars right now.

2009 Acura TSX for 20k or
2009 Mercedes C300 for 20k

What would the difference be between these two cars lets say over 5 years? I assume the merc would have engine problems past a certain mileage whereas the Acura will probably not?

Thanks.

I would doubt a 8year old Benz will have engine issues.

Cost of ownership will be to price out maintenance work, tires, insurance and gas.

I want to believe that both cars in 5 years should be solid cars. Cost should be roughly the same to me. Its which car is cheaper to buy and fits ur needs the best.

How many miles currently on each and how many would you average over the next 5 years?

Probably not accurate numbers, but I would think it would be relative.

Total Cost Of Ownership:

TSX - 4 cyl, 6 speed

$45,792

C300 Sport Sedan
(3.0L V6 6-speed Manual)

$54,703

Mercedes has been doing 15-20k Oil changes for many years.

I would def think it WOULD have engine issues at that oil change range.....especially since
a) most MB owners switch to newer cars/under warranty
b) Mercedes knows very well that service profits POST warranty are welcome
c) My friend (service advisor at MB) tells me that engine failure rates on newer benzes at around 80-100k miles are NOT uncommon.

I would also recommend staying away from German car with no warranty....

I was looking at a new to me 2012 Mercedes-Benz C350 Coupe a few months back at my local Mercedes dealer. The car had 11k miles on it and they were asking $38k for it. It was silver with dark grey leather interior. Had all the bells and whistles including AMG wheels. I loved the car but the thought of putting nearly 20k miles a year on such a nice (and expensive) car made me think twice.

No way would I buy a 4 year old German car that is out of warranty.

How much do you like driving. If its just about cost of ownership definitely get the tsx. Gets better mpg too.

The merc is probably a better car at everything than the tsx though. I looked at it before and the 09 tsx when it came out

Acura will have better resale. Acura will have less repairs. Acura will cost less in fuel. More than likely it will cost less to insure. I can't imagine it losing on a cost basis. Any reason why these two cars? I imagine the TL would be closer to the Merc in features, etc.
