It takes oil to get coal out of the ground so production costs are rising.

On a more important point. Are the bad children of the world going to be even more screwed next Christmas?

The worlds natural resources are being gobbled up at an ever increasing rate as the population growth and the standard of living continues to increase.

Look for solar, wind, hydro, tidal, and nuclear to become a dominant palyer in 50yrs.

The majority of states should pass laws that require all new homes being built to include solar or wind. Costs dramatically decrease when homes are built with the systems as opposed to having them retro-fit. 30yr financing of an additional $8K is pretty damn cheap!

Obviously we can not have a windmill in everyones backyard but for homes on large lots (say 1/2 acre or more) then a windmill would not be a bad idea. They are about 1/3 cheaper than solar and do not degrade over time like solar panels do. Solar panels have a 20yr life.

fixed. nuclear needs a lot of water so in a way it can be restricted to very specific locations, depending on new reactor designs and cooling methods.
