Corvettes?

Recently posted a thread about looking for a new (used) car. Corvettes have been catching my eye lately and I am wondering what kind of experiences any of you have had with them. I am probably looking at a 2001-2005 corvette with hopefully less than 50,000 miles. Any information would be helpful. Also, if anyone knows of a site with a popular car forum that would be helpful too. Basically so I can get more information.

Will it be your only car? I'm not sure what you were looking for, but I generally hear from the owners that they don't enjoy driving it when there's snow, ice, etc. I wouldn't recommend one myself.

Are you prepared for the higher cost of ownership? Tires, insurance, etc. will all add to just the price of the car, even if it depreciated a bit bringing it into your price range at what you were looking for.

I do understand that it won't be a cheap car (cost and maintenance), but I just want to know if it is something prone to breaking down a lot or if they are pretty reliable. I don't get snow where I live so at worst it would be out in the rain. I just need to find more information from a forum or something. I am not a car guy, but started looking into corvettes and am liking them very much.

My experience is that I have been going to the Chevy dealer lately and I like the new Vette!

I've already priced one out the way I want it(Atomic Orange Metallic Tintcoat and Auto trans) and it's $48K list so I know I can get one way cheaper than that. 😉

I wanted a convertible but the standard coupe is essentially a convertible with the standard removable top. All I know is I can't wait to get mine. 🙂

Well the list price ranges from $45k to $75k for brand new '07s and the used seem to range from $25k-$35k. I am definately going to get a used one and was leaning towards a convertible (did not care for them at first, but they are growing on me). I just need a good resource to find out more information on vettes and cars in general. I think a vette would be a nice upgrade from my current car and I have enough of a down payment so that it will be a reasonable monthly payment that will also help me build credit.

It's nice you owned those cars. Some day I am sure you will "make sexy time" with a woman as Borat would put it, lol. 😉

Congratulations, you can brag about your parents. If you want us to believe you, pics are the only way, with a paper near the car saying "This is Alprazolam, ATOT."

Oh, and by the way, the Viper sucks, can't handle for sh!t, but yeah sure, it's got one hell of an engine and I can't deny that at all - one of the best friday night cars or whatever, but not something I'd say I'd ever buy with my own money.

old vettes are nice, like 65-67, the new ones not so much. I've always felt the corvette is the car of the creepy middle aged guy that can't come to terms with his age. He can be found cruising in front of high schools, wears gold chains, and listens to pop rock. I just can't get the image out of my head. When i hear someone has a vette, the image is in my head.
Now, old ones, different story. Classics are always the exception to the rule.

Kinda like mustangs, it seems everyone has one these days, but the few classics on the road turn heads and make it worth while. There are so many newer vettes on the road, and almost all are driven by the same stereotype.

And as far as dependability, they are about as good as any high horrsepower performance modern chevy. If you can fix it yourself, good, if not, prepare to pay for it.

Ooookay, whatever you say, Mr. Armchair Auto Journalist. Put down your Motor Trend and stop watching Top Gear long enough to listen to someone who says he knows something, mmkay? He doesn't have to verify anything to you, because he could care less what some jerkoff on ATOT thinks about him. You can't prove he hasn't had a bunch of Corvettes, and he doesn't need to prove that he has- so why don't you go find yourself something else to do?
No one ever said you had to believe everything people say on the Internet, but at the same time you're an idiot if you decide to take everything personally and demand verification.

Idiot.

edit:
to the OP: from what I know, the C5s get great highway gas mileage, and are dead reliable if you take reasonably good care of them. Check out CorvetteForum.com for some great information and people. Good luck!

You still didn't answer my question. You merely answered a future one asking if you were a spoiled little brat.
