Have to? No, not really. Maybe I'm being pessimistic but I believe the new CAFE requirements signed by Bush will severely hurt HP down the line. C7 around 2012 might be the last Corvette model for sometime with high HP. Vettes get good gas mileage but 35 mpg avg requirement is pretty steep hill to climb.

I don't think CAFE requires every single car in a lineup to reach a 35 mpg avg, just the avg of their entire lineup as a whole. Considering the ZR1 isn't a high volume car, I doubt it makes a dent to GM's CAFE.
