Automobile Magazine's automobile of the year - thats right kiddies, the 2001 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. ;)

Read the article and see the pics here

<< So it finally comes to this happy conclusion a mere forty-eight years after the initial flame (blue, of course) was lit: The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is, at long last, a real, 100 percent, no excuses, no explanations, no footnotes American sports car, one that can hold its own with just about anything on the road, even if that anything comes from Zuffenhausen or Maranello, at a price that no other company in the world--not even the one from Hamtramck--can approach, let alone match. How could it not be our 2001 Automobile of the Year?

If it were the big 4 of auto magazines, instead of the big 3 (C&D, MT, R&T), then Automobile would be the 4th.

I hate J.D. Power also. I don't think they even know how to pop a hood latch, they just take it around the block get out and look at it and if they think it's a pretty car it gets the ticket...

All in all it's still only panels... it's all about what's under the hood that REALLY matters

Kind of silly that "automobile of the year" is a car that only a minute fraction of the population can afford. Might as well be a mclaren F1.

true, despite Automobile's credibility, i would agree with their conclusion. i LOVE the z06. and the fact that an american manufacture, a *crappy* american manufacturer (chevrolet) can create a car that good makes me proud.

and 50,000 isn't alot, considering all the slobs who will shell out 40,000 for a piece of sh1t Lincoln Navigator or equivalent.

Its alright but how long have they been using that body type?

They should have at least completely done it some justice and updated the look.

JD Power is little more than an extra advertising department for everyone.

With every new car they just tweak the class-definities a little. At least it seems so, damn near ever car add you see has "JDP&A Best in Class" on it.

The only reason that they only charge 50k is that the car is ugly and no one wants it. Oh yea it's cheap and noisy. Don't get me wrong, I love corvette's, but not after early 70's. If i'm gonna spend 50k i'd much rather have a used porsche or M5 than a corvette. BTW, Mclarens are 1.5 million not that it really matters. I've only got another $1,498,200 until I buy mine. it won't be long now
