On second thought, I've yet to own a car with any sort of traction control. So I guess I don't really have any frame of reference. One of my cars doesn't even have ABS.

I have never driven a RWD car with TC. It might help actually, I spin all day in my car, the rubber must be hard since the tires are both 9.5 inches wide. Or it could just be bad roads.

Effectiveness is all over the map. Traction control in my Corolla SUCKS. Any slip at all causes it to kill the throttle. If there's half an inch of snow on the road, the car basically stops working. Disabling the traction control makes the car 100x better.
My mom's RWD Nissan Xterra has pretty good traction control. It will let the driver get carried away a little, then it steps in when the ass starts swinging out. If you drive like an idiot, the traction control will not save you.
Traction control in my Subaru Impreza is pretty good. It rarely kicks in since it's an AWD vehicle, but it seems like it kicks in at the right time. If I hit the gas while making a tight turn on snow, the traction control prevents it from skidding.

IMO, the traction control systems appear to be intended for ice instead of snow. There have been a few times where the Corolla's traction control got me out of an ice rut at the mcdonalds drive through.

I'd just cut them off. I can actually handle the power.

I'm sure everyone that lays down his bike said he can handle the power.

So bikes are the opposite of sex :hmm:

Looks like it may have been an auto, punched it..auto kicked down, cold tires + cool track = traction loss.
Sounds plausible. The same exact thing happens with auto transmissions on ice. That slight jerk when it changes gears sometimes makes the ass end lose traction.

WTF happened here?

I'll just point out again another base automatic C6 (probably stock engine) loaded with gaudy aftermarket exterior parts: rims, tail trim, fender vent inserts, tail light rings, etc...

Looks like dude bought everything that came up on an Ebay search for "Corvette 3m trim".

There appears to be some correlation between people who "mod" their car with AutoZone parts and the inability to drive their car.

toretttttoooooooo

I don't get it. I've rented a C6 from hertz, driven it over 1000 miles (including some lovely twisties in the catskills) and never once felt like it was going to kill me. Just how stupid do these morons need to be to crash it?

Yeah he knows what he's doing... trying to drift around blind corners and going into oncoming traffic and narrowly missing other cars....

These are all good examples of whey I never messed around with turning off traction control and Stabilitrak when I had mine. The only time I put it in Competition Mode was try out the launch control.

I didn't say he was being smart about it. Just that he seemed to be able to control it enough not to crash... up to the point at which he crashed of course. 😉

I blame Jeremy Clarkson and the writers of the auto rags personally.

we could always change the topic to traffic splitting and bicyclist who do not obey traffic signals.

stupid people drive all kinds of things with wheels.

bunch of freaking morons. person riding a bike right before the light turned green and what looked like a father and son crossing the road as well.

Since they are so dangerous, all motorcycles should have a pretty low HP limit, and a limiter around 75 mph.

I'm glad I can shut off the traction control in my 350z HR.

When I rip off the line and grab second the car jerks and bogs due to TC engaging. It is impossible to rip through first and second gear with TC on.

Ditto, I'm glad I can shut off the Traction Control on my 2000 Jetta VR6. 176 ponies is waaay too much power to be put down with traction control on.
