I would take a lighter, stripped, v6 350hp version for 30k

(Still must have the same suspension, brakes, dry sump, aero, and cooling bits though)

Total fail.

What 350hp v6 is meaningfully lighter than a small block?

What 350hp V6 costs 23000 dollars less than a LT1 small block?

The only way I see this being lighter is if by "stripped" you mean no interior. And it's still not going to be much cheaper.

Maybe a BRZ or 370z base will make you happy... that's probably as close as you are going to get for what you want (30k new).

Note: there probably is realistically next to no cost difference between a 350hp V6 and the LT1 that is already in the base car. They have no reason to make them cheaper. This isn't the Camaro (which uses the V8 models to make extra profit). They can sell the volume they need to with just the base car.

You can get plenty of relatively inexpensive 350hp corvettes... you just have to look a few years back on the used market.

Wasn't Chevy themselves looking into basically doing that, only with a smaller V8, but it was I believe supposed to be a good like $15K cheaper than the Stingray? Maybe it wasn't going to be that much cheaper, but I remember rumors about them considering a Corvette below the Stingray.

There was a rumor, but where you find 15k savings in a c6 I dunno. Truck motor, no interior, like... only so many non essentials you can pull and a LS3 wasn't exactly a super expensive motor. About 8 grand retail so maybe 5-6 grand to produce at most.

GM is pulling the oldest trick in the retail stores marketing. Raise the price, give a big discount and make it seem like you are getting a better deal.

C7 will still be a great deal regardless, and would still be my choice over anything else.....
