Check the mfg part# on the memory once you receive them. CompUSA was selling the same memory in stores. Well, what i thought was the same memory. I plug them into my computer and check the Timings....it's advertised as 5-5-5-12 however, the system reported it as 5-5-5-18.

Also the part# on the package had a 'G' at the end. Going to the Corsair website, I only found the 'G' markings on the 4gig kits with the same timings. I couldn't find the same timings for 2gig kits. So....I'm not sure what's going on. The pricing was cheap and it's not like I'm going to notice a difference.

We're very sorry you had an issue. If you would like for me to inquire with the rebate company, I'd be happy to do it. We don't like seeing CS issues like this. However, it is good to see that you got it resolved with a FAX.

This is normal as the memory is set to boot at JEDEC stock timings for greater MOBO compatibility. To use the better latencies, you will need to set them manually. Also, the "G" in our part numbers = GREEN, or RoHS compliant.

I did not know that. Thanks. I'll set them up when I get home from work.

Memory companies really should say somewhere on the box that you need to set speeds and timings manually. I'm sure they get thousands of calls about that, I know we get hundreds of threads from noobs about it.

Enormous drop in IC prices. The opposite effect is why DDR3 is so expensive right now. It's a natural ebb and flow with supply n demand pricing.

I guess so. I just don't remember a drop of 80% like this.

At one point, some DDR 2 x 512 was about $50 or so and 2 x 1gb was under $100. It will continue to happen as long as technology moves forward so rapidly and IC production remains the same as far as how the companies manage FABs.

It also helps that the FTC jailed a few of the execs that were involved with price fixing.... so now we are seeing closer to a true market economy.

The boys at the higher levels are not quite so eager to gouge the consumer, because they could end up with their organs in the grinder.
