Corsair XMS2 8000UL (2x512MB) DDR2-1000 for $89.99 + ship/tax

Fatbody not good? What planet do you come from? They do tighter timings and will take more voltage than any other IC out there.

$89.99 + shipping/tax

Capacity ... 1GB (2 x 512MB)
Speed ....... DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000)
Timing ...... 5-4-4-9
Voltage ..... 2.2V

ramlist says that these sticks use Micron D9DQT fatbodies.

Actually, you did not read completely the RAMList, did you? Otherwise, you'd have noticed two things......the RAM was in red, and that red, down at the bottom of the page (wonder why it was in red?) denoted:

RED Fatbody ICs (11x19mm 92-ball) are no longer in production. Modules with only red text behind them now have unknown ICs.

So, this RAM does NOT have fatbodies on them, instead we have RAM that has unknown IC's on them. I'd edit your title and OP.

As for the fatbodies......they were considered the best of the Micron line...and many people cried at XtremeSystems when the fatbodies were discontinued. They were in no way inferior to anything Micron makes today.

That's why the green type on RAMList denotes this:

The 80nm successor of Fatbody. These 10x10mm 60-ball ICs are the next best thing.

Now, you don't say something is the next best thing to another unless the first thing is the better of the two....or three in this case (D9DQT being MUCH better that D9GMH and D9GKX.)

I received my 8000ULs today. They are marked as

CM2X512-8000UL
XMS8005v1.1

Looking at the modules from the edge, the ICs are rectangular and almost as wide as the pcb. This is consistent with the shape of fatbody D9 chips. I don't want to void the warranty so the heatspreaders are staying on. Waiting for C2D price drops so I can't test yet.

Newegg seems to have uncovered some new old stock from somewhere. In any case, if they run at spec I'll be happy.

Odd the it hasn't made this list yet:

That thread is updated several times a day and those guys pay careful attention to any and all Micron D9 chips hitting the market. I'd think, given their fascination with D9 Micron, a shout and cry would go up if fatbodies were truly back. But what do I and they know? 🙂
