corsair XMS heatspreaders?

is there anyway to take off the heatspreads on corsair XMS ram???? i wanna see what kind of chips are under the spreaders

I thought they were just clamped on, aren't they?

My XMS chips have a little metal clamp that appears to be holding them on. Isn't this what you have or have they changed them?

You'll probably void the warranty if you do... but they use the same thermal adhesive tapes that the blue Thermaltake heatspreaders that you can buy online or at a store. You can take it off by sticking a plastic card in between the chips and the heatspreader...i suppose you can use something similar to a credit card but preferably thinner so it can get in between easier. Sometimes those adhesives aren't even on straight... but I'm just anal retentive like that considering how heatspreaders aren't even necessary just yet. :)

thanx for the replies, i dont think i'll remove the spreaders anymore. guess i'll wait and see how it performs in overclocking

Depending on which speed you have gotten, it would have different chips.

From what I understand PC3200 uses Winbond-BH6, and anything faster uses Winbond -BH5
