CORSAIR XMS 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 550 (PC 4400) Desktop Memory - Retail

Bought 4 for myself to use on a few rigs. Seems to beat everyone else around by about $40-50.

Hot. Judging by the 2.75v spec, would this be TCCD?

I just paid $140 + ship for 2x512 of TCCD from ZZF.com. Patriot 3200XBLK. It's so far stable at 2.5-3-3-7 @ 265, 2.7V, so if this is also TCCD, highly recommended.

I am running 4 x 512mb BH-5 Kingston HyperX cas2,2,2,5,2T on the rig i am typeing this on right now at 220FSB with 2.7V with a dual core opteron 165 at 2.6ghz dual channel 24/7.

all 4 x 512mb limits is no 1T use, in timings, and that made my 3dmark06 score go down 7 points and virtually no effect in games at all.

Even so, I don't see a reason for choosing 4x512MB sticks over the slightly slower rated and cheaper 2x1GB ones?
You pay more for 4x512MB, loose 1T and memory performance, and have no room left for adding more memory in the future.

You can't run 4 sticks in dual channel, if at all.
With Vista just around the corner, you'll pretty much be required to get 2GB of memory.

Why don't you guys get this instead?
2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR500 (PC4000) for just $190

Anybody have experience with the Crucial Ballistix?

OK, OK.
I stand corrected.
But my main point is why do you wanna run 4 sticks?
There are no advantages.
Can you think of any?
I'm running 2x512MB Patriot XBLK TCCDs which I'm gonna sell and get 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix instead.

as allready established 4x of these 512s can be had for a better price than 2x1gb of comparable (DDR550) memory.

but yes- compromising to 2x1gb of slower capability RAM can get a better price. Guess what matters here is if you need DDR550...

dude, any amd64 sys can run dual channel w/ 4 sticks. this aint new.

Mine's not happy with some Corsair Value Select and Kingston ValueRAM. All of the memory is good and happily runs Memtest86 w/ two installed. But with four it won't boot. The manual says that it'll cut the speed to 333 for compatibility, but you can manually turn it upto 400. With my CPU OC'ed "333"=400 (which I run at). I'm debating on trying with a voltage bump to 2.7. This higher spec'ed RAM would probably be happier than the cheap stuff I got at 4 DIMMs though.

The value select stuff won't run much more than 200 FSB so if you're OCing at all, you'll have to turn the ram down to 333 or lower (since the processor FSB has been raised.)Mine is set at DDR333 which runs the ram at ~258 FSB when my processor is at 323 FSB (4:5 ratio). That 4 stick limitation at DDR333 applies to both the NF3 and NF4 boards.

and then there is the single sided/double sided issue. Most NF4 chipset boards will do 4x DDR DIMMS at full DDR400 speed in Dual Channel mode fine as long as they are single sided(single bank) DIMMS. I personally have run 4x Kingston HyperX double sided 512s on both MSI SLI and ASUS SLI deluxe boards in DC mode at 224mhz(DDR 448) OK. But Crucial XMS wouldnt even at default 200/400. So different brands/SPDs/chips can make a difference too.

I do run at "333" to keep it at 400. I need to do some more messing around to see if I can get it to play together in any case. Atleast I didn't pay much for the RAM :)

*still boggling at the fact that RAM prices have gone up that much*

I got the AMD retail program last year with the AMD 64 3200 CPU which is the 700ish pin one and the ABIT Mobo. Would I benefit from using this ram at all or should I just wait to upgrade to a better mobo/cpu first?
