Hi

My memory died and Corsair is offering the following (see below Corsair e-mail) as a replacement. I paid $800 at the time for the 6 sticks of memory.

I just don't know if what is being offered to me is a fair exchange.

Thanks for your help.

Glenn

Your memory was DDR3-2000 CAS 7, and the memory that they are offering is 1866C9 or 1600C9? Doesn't sound fair to me.

Edit: While I haven't looked up the model numbers, the second kit sounds like they are offering you 12GB of 1600 CAS 9 memory. I would take that one, assuming that your current (dead) RAM is a 6GB kit. More RAM is better than faster RAM, for nearly all applications.

Thanks for your quick reply. My original ram was 12 gigs. Is the 12gb of 1600 cas 9 memory still a fair replacement? Thanks

Quick look-up of the model numbers, the first one is this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145292

the second one is this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145321

The first one looks like only 6 GB (3x2GB) so unless they're sending you two kits, that sounds like not a great exchange. The second one is 12 GB (3x4GB) and looks like a reasonable exchange to me. It's not quite as spiffy as the clock rates on the original kit, but the clock rates mostly don't matter that much anyway.

I'd take them up on the 2nd one and just make sure you follow your motherboard's directions for inserting the 3 sticks in triple channel mode.

Oh, I see, you had two 6GB kits that you returned. Their reply letter doesn't have any qtys listed next to their proposed replacements.

Are they proposing to replace your two 3x2GB kits, with one 3x2GB 1866CAS9, or one 3x4GB 1600CAS9 kit, or are they proposing to replace each of your returned kits, with those kits? Meaning, that if the second kit is a 3x4GB kit (12GB), then you would get two of them for 24GB total.

If that's what they are proposing (giving you 2x 12GB kits of 1600 CAS9), then that's what I would do. 24GB of 1600 CAS 9 should be good for you.

Yes I had two 6GB kits returned. And Yes I think they will replace them with 2 kits - either 12gb first kit or 24gb second kit.

They have also offered a single sticks of the following:

Im sorry to inform you but 2000 MHz CAS 7 isn't made anymore, but we can offer slightly faster memory - 2133 MHz @ CAS 8.

Potential/Alternate Replacement: CMD16GX3M4A2133C8 OR CMY16GX3M4A2133C8R

Here are the links:

My final question is in terms of performance:

should I take one of the tri-channel kits at the lower speed or get the one single channel memory at the higher speed per stick?

My System:
Rampage IV Extreme with up to quad channel memory support
4 way sLI 480 gtx
i7 3930K

Thanks for helping me!

I'm confused by your links as both are to dual channel kits and if that is what they're offering get the dominator.
