CORSAIR Vengeance LP issues

My setup:
CPU: Intel 3770k
MB: P8Z77-V PRO
MEM: CORSAIR Vengeance LP CML16GX3M4X1600C8
GPU: eVGA Geforce GTX 670 FTW (2 in SLI)
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower (1000 watts)

When I enable X.M.P. (8-8-8-24 1600) my system becomes unstable... memtest86 sometimes locks up on test #10; and memtest86+ the same on test #8. Also windows 7 would lock at the starting windows animation and my machine would reset.

I pushed the memory voltage up to 1.55 and got into windows. But it later locked up on me and I had to reset it. I pushed it up to 1.57 and it seemed stable, but when I ran Prime95 and set it to use all 16GB of memory my machine again locked up and I had to reset.

Do you guys think I have some bad memory? I'm thinking I should take two sticks out and do some more testing.

Thoughts? Thanks! :)

When memtest locks up, does it have any errors to display about the RAM?
Try testing one stick at a time?
Is your CPU overclocked?

I had an issue with my Vengeance LP 16GB kit as well, but I narrowed it down to one stick being faulty, as it gave me errors almost immediately in memtest, but the other stick was fine. I RMA'd it with Newegg, and my replacement kit has been completely fine; even tightened up the timings a bit with no ill effects though I know it doesn't matter too much.

No no errors are displayed. It just locks up. The cursor keeps blinking though, and the "+" symbol in the "Memtest86+" title continues to flash. However memtest just stops, and my system won't respond to any input.

I'll test individual sticks tomorrow and see what happens.

EDIT:
Oh and no I haven't overclocked my CPU yet. Everything is default except my attempt to get X.M.P. working and the bumped up voltages I tried. I have reset everything back to default now and it is running fine again.

Try updating the BIOS on your motherboard if you aren't running the latest version.

When you say "default", do you mean BIOS initially detecting the memory as 1333?

I had similar issues as you with the Vengeance LP sticks (2 x 4Gb) in my board, an Asus MIVE. I ended up returning them, and going instead with 2 x 4Gb of G.Skill Sniper 1866 -- Newegg had them for $10 off at that moment, so they were the same price as 1600. Those have been working at rated specs for close to a year now, so in my case at least it might have been a compatibility issue.

I tested each stick and found a bad one. As soon as I swapped to it memtest started locking up and so did windows. The other sticks tested fine. I'm running on just two ATM.

Did you find out what was wrong with it?
Either way, it seems it's defective, so time to do an RMA, I think.

All I know at this point is that with X.M.P. enabled the one stick locks my system up. At this point I'm not too worried to find out any more specific details.

Like you said it is obviously defective. :(
