Corsair Value Select vs. XMS

Just curious if anyone has any experience with the Corsair VS. Besides being cas 2.5 does it still OC well and and will it still do cas 2 or is that pretty much a shot in the dark depending on the stick you get?

Any sites with good reviews/comparisons?

I'm going to be putting together a new system in the next few weeks (moving up from my BX6 with a Cely2 633@987). It's been a while since I visited this forum and I'm trying to figure out the best way to go. What I'm really looking for is some mem that isn't too expensive, but still has a decent chance of being stable above 166 Mhz. I've gathered from reading other posts that Crucial or Samsung PC2700 is the way to go for me but I hadn't heard anything about the Value Select.

Thanks

I spent the extra $20 a stick for these, running them at 166 2-3-3-6 performance with no problems. I've never seen a review comparing XMS to VS though.

What CPU are you getting?

Thanks KoolHonda. I think you have helped me make up my mind.
I run my current stick of memory that I bought as generic (turned out to be spectek, division of micron) at 2-2-3-5, so I am content.
I love googlegear. In fact I was planning on buuying the XMS from there (love that free 2 day shipping)

One less upgrade to worry about.

As far as I know, VS is decent, but I do not know what kind of setup you are planning on.

Right now I'm thinking Epox 8rda+ and a Tbred 1800+. I may wait until the rev B is available. I'm trying for a CPU/Mem setup that will last 3-4 years with a CPU upgrade after 1.5 or 2. I figured a nForce 2 board should be good for a Barton in 1-2 years and hopefully the Mem will hold up as well.

That's what I did with this PC and I'm fairly happy with the results. Certainly not cutting edge, but a CPU upgrade and maybe 2 graphic card updates to get me through. That's the plan anyway.

i got the same sticks 2700 XMS with vlaxk heat spreaders. running them puppies at 187.5@2-3-3-7 😀 - rock solid with p4 2.66.
Definately worth extra $20
