Corsair Value Select vs. TWINX

Hi.

I'm looking to get a new computer, probably an A64 3500+ w/ nVidia 6600GT.

Anyways my question is, is there any appreciable difference between getting a gig of Corsair Value Select 3200 and a TWINX1024-3200, especially in gaming? The value select would run me about $250, and the TWINX about $293 (Canadian).

I would like to know the difference in performance if I use stock settings, and the difference if I overclock. If anyone has any info on this, or perhaps suggestions other than those two types of RAM, that would be great!
 
With an athlon64 you want the lowest latency memory you can get, You should still run really fast even with cas 2.5 stuff, but for maximum performance, get the 2

Actually its the other way around. Yes, you obviously get more performance with better Ram, but A64's do not require the best ram. The difference in CAS speed should not make as much of a difference, and expensive ram isnt really truely worthit. Youll only get a small increase with good ram over generic ram, and most people will tell you to save your money and put it towards a better video card.
 
Agreed with fsstrike. The on-die memory controller makes better use of lower latency ram.

Unless you really plan on overclocking and reaching high HTT's running 1:1 with the memory to improve bandwidth, indeed save the money and put it towards a nice video card.
 
Ok -- so basically just forget about the Corsair TWINX because I'm not going to be hardcore overclocking, and go for the Value Select??

Also I noticed you guys have OCZ and A64s, is there some advantage to coupling OCZ with A64s, or is that a coincidence?
 
Thanks Xatrix, I've read both of those. Basically just says that the OCZ Platinum R.2 is the best.. unfortunately it also costs a million dollars.

Neither mention the Corsair Value Select and how much worse performance-wise it is comapred to the TWINX series, which is what I'm really interested in. Basically any decent RAM where I can get 1 GB for less than $300 CND ($250 USD).
 
WOW. Somehow I missed that.. $275 sounds like a steal for OCZ PT R2, especially considering how well it does in benchmarks and it's crazy overclockability.

You can get some crucial ballistix 2x515 for $260 from the crucial website(which is the cheapest). They also seem to overclock well.
