Well, I plan on building my first computer once I can get my hands onthe asus a8n sli board and theres one thing i am sort of confused about. I see all these builds people are using like $300 (512x2), is that only for people who are overclocking? I was just going to put in some corsair value select 3200 (512x2) for about $150 cause I plan to do little if any ocing. But if some better ram like xms, ocz, ballistix, ect will boost my performance in games I would get it, but if its only used to support OCing i dont think i should waste my money.

If it turns out I should get something better than value ram, let me know what is good and has a good price too. thanks in advance

If you aren't OCing, some Value Select will do quite nicely. It's not just cheap generic RAM, either, so you can know you bought good quality stuff without paying through the nose for ultra-low timings. And Value Select is supposed to do mild overclocks (10 mhz or so) pretty well.

Don't waste your money on fancy stuff if you don't OC. Latencies are not a factor in real-world A64 performance, with the difference usually being <1% between CL2.5 and CL2.

(On a side note, I have heard it may be worthwhile to wait on the SLI, as it seems a 2x6800 GT/U setup is still a bit CPU limited even with an FX-55. If you were planning on going 2x6600 GT, get a single 6800 GT instead.)
